fado.today is operated by Fábio ("I", "the site"). This policy explains what data I collect, why, and what rights you have.

What I collect

Analytics. I use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and PostHog (European instance, data hosted in the EU) to understand how people use the site — which pages they visit, how long they stay, where they come from. These services use cookies. If you reach the site from an AI assistant (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini…), I also keep a cookie of my own (fado_ai) for the length of your visit, with that assistant's name, to know whether those visits lead to bookings. I do not collect names, emails or data that personally identifies you through analytics.

Affiliate link clicks. When you click a booking link (for example, to Viator or GetYourGuide), I record that click anonymously. This lets me know which recommendations generate bookings and, in turn, commissions. The record includes: the link clicked, the source page, the date and time and, if you came from an AI assistant, which one — which also goes in the link to the partner. It does not include personal data.

Contact form. If you write to me through the form, I collect your name, email and message — only to reply to you. I do not add your email to any marketing list.

Bookings at Tasca da Bela. If you book Bela here on the site, the deposit is paid on Stripe, which passes me your name, email and phone number and anything you write about allergies or dietary needs. I use them only to book the table, confirm it with you and, if needed, refund the deposit; the house gets your name and the number of people. Stripe keeps the payment record, as the law requires. To show the free tables, the site queries the house's booking system without sending any of your data. The day after the night, I email you once to ask how it went. If you reply and let me, I publish your words on the house's page, with your first name and country only.

Guide purchases and emails. If you buy the guide, Stripe passes me your email address, which I use only to send you the download link and, when you ask for it, the link to sign in to the online guide — the site checks with Stripe, by that email, that you bought the guide. So you don't have to sign in every time, your browser keeps an essential cookie (fado_guia) that does only that, for a year; you can sign out whenever you like. Booking and guide emails are sent through Resend, from servers in the EU (Ireland).

Third-party cookies. Booking partners (Viator, GetYourGuide) may set their own cookies when you visit their sites from one of my links. Those cookies are the responsibility of those partners — consult their respective privacy policies.

Why I collect

• To understand which content is useful and improve the site.
• To measure the result of the affiliate partnerships that sustain the site.
• To reply to you when you contact me.

Data retention

• Analytics: GA4 and PostHog data is retained for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
• Link clicks: retained for 12 months for the purpose of commission reconciliation.
• Contacts: your email and message are kept as long as they are needed for the conversation; I delete them when they are no longer relevant.

Your rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

• Access the data I hold about you.
• Rectify incorrect data.
• Erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
• Object to the processing of your data for analytics purposes.
• Portability — receive your data in a structured format.
• Withdraw consent for cookies at any time, through your browser settings or the site's cookie banner.

How to exercise your rights

Write to me through the contact form or by email. I identify the data associated with your request and reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with my reply, you can lodge a complaint with the CNPD (Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados), the Portuguese supervisory authority.

Changes to this policy

If I change this policy in any significant way, I update the date at the top and, where possible, give notice on the homepage. I recommend you check it periodically.
