Senhor Vinho — Maria da Fé's house, in Lapa
A fado house founded in 1975 by the fadista Maria da Fé, where many of today's great names started out. A €67.50 menu without drinks, Monday to Saturday. Away from the centre — and that's exactly why.
Short answer
Senhor Vinho is a fado house with dinner in Lapa, founded in 1975 by the fadista Maria da Fé, who is still its artistic director. There's a €67.50 menu per person (starter, main, dessert, fado), without drinks. It opens Monday to Saturday. It's off the Alfama and Bairro Alto circuit, and the room has the feel of a family home.
Just after the 25 de Abril revolution, the poet José Luís Gordo, the fadista Maria da Fé and António Melo Correia opened Senhor Vinho. The house calls itself "the most traditional of Lisbon's fado houses", and what earns it that claim is the list of people who started out here: Mariza, Camané, Ana Moura, António Zambujo, Aldina Duarte, Gisela João. It turned 50 in 2025.

What the night is like
A classic, tidy dining room, with professional fadistas singing between the courses. The cast the house lists for 2026 includes Ana Sofia Varela, Filipa Cardoso, Vanessa Alves and Francisco Salvação Barreto, with Paulo Parreira on Portuguese guitar. If you want to hear Maria da Fé, call ahead and ask whether she'll be there — she doesn't always sing.
How much it costs
€67.50 per person: couvert, starter, main (fish, meat or vegetarian) and dessert, with the fado included. Drinks extra. Menus are per person — they can't be shared.
Who it's for — and who it isn't
It's for those who want a house with a lineage, off the most touristy route, and an unhurried dinner. Lapa at night is a quiet neighbourhood.
It isn't for those who want to walk over from Alfama or Bairro Alto: it's a long way. Go by taxi or bus. And it isn't for those who only want half an hour of fado.
How to book
By WhatsApp (+351 914 277 652), phone or email, through the house's website. Closed on Sundays.
