Clube de Fado — what to expect from the house by the Sé
Dinner with fado in a stone-arched room in Alfama, founded by a guitarist in 1995. A €78 menu without drinks, fado from 20:30, every day. Who it's for and who it isn't.
Short answer
Clube de Fado is a fado house with dinner in Alfama, next to the Sé, in a room of stone arches. There's a set menu at €78 per person (starter, main, dessert, fado included); drinks are paid separately. It opens every day, the fado starts at 20:30 and goes on until one. You book on the house's website. It's worth it if you want a formal, complete night; it's expensive if you only want to hear fado.
Clube de Fado was founded in 1995 by a musician: the guitarist Mário Pacheco, who accompanied Amália Rodrigues and Carlos do Carmo. You can tell from the order of things — the house says it grew out of fado and that the dinner came afterwards, built around it. Pacheco left the house in 2019; today it belongs to the same group as Café Luso and Adega Machado.

What the night is like
You arrive between 19:30 and 20:00, sit in one of the alcoves the stone arches carve out of the room, and the fado starts at 20:30. Sets of fado alternate with the courses until one. When someone sings, the room goes quiet — it's a house rule, and it's kept.
The cast rotates. In 2026 the house's website lists voices such as Sofia Ramos, Sara Paixão, Cristina Madeira and Carlos Leitão, and on Portuguese guitar names like José Manuel Neto. There's no guarantee of who sings on any given night.
How much it costs
The menu is set: €78 per person with couvert, starter, main (fish, meat or vegetarian) and dessert, with the fado included. Drinks are extra — budget around €90 to €100 per person with a glass or two of wine. There's no ticket for the fado alone.
2026 guides still quote €50–60: they're out of date. The price that counts is the one on the house's website.
Who it's for — and who it isn't
It's for those who want the whole night sorted in a classic house, with a sit-down dinner and professional fadistas, and don't mind paying for it. It's right next to the Sé, so it's easy to find.
It isn't for those who only want the music or are on a tight budget. For that, a short show like Fado in Alfama, a few minutes from here, costs from €19. And if you're looking for a smaller neighbourhood house, with petiscos and drinks included, Tasca da Bela is in the same neighbourhood.
How to book
On the house's website, for groups of up to ten; above that, by phone or email. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. For Friday and Saturday nights, book a week ahead.
