Short answer

Fado in Lisbon costs between €10 and €120 per person, depending on the format. A short show without dinner runs €19–30. A night with dinner runs €55–120. A cruise with fado and dinner is around €69. Fado vadio in a tavern costs only the price of drinks — €10–20. The price doesn't change if you book through the links on this site.

"How much does it cost?" is the first question I get, and the honest answer is: it depends on the format. There's no single fado price — there are four kinds of night, and each has a different pricing logic. Here are the real numbers, no spin.

Short show, no dinner — €19 to €30

This is the cheapest format with guaranteed quality. You pay only for the concert: about an hour of fado, in a small room, with professional fadistas.

  • Fado in Alfama — from €19/person, with a glass of port included. It's the cheapest of the ones I recommend and, at the same time, the highest rated.
  • Fado no Chiado — from €23/person, show only, in the city centre.

For those who have already eaten or have little time, this is the best use of your money. You eat where you like and pay only for the music.

Night with dinner — €55 to €120

Here you pay for the whole night: dinner, fado, and in most cases a programme around it.

The price seems high until you see what it includes: meal, drink, context, and the night sorted with no logistical decisions. I write more about this in the article on fado with or without dinner.

Cruise with fado — around €69

The Fado on a boat on the Tagus costs from €69/person, with dinner and drinks on board. You pay for the view — Lisbon seen from the river at night — as much as for the fado.

Fado vadio — €10 to €20

In the taverns of Bairro Alto and Mouraria, fado vadio has no ticket. You pay only for the drinks you have. It's the cheapest of all, but it's unpredictable: one night it's extraordinary, another it's uneven.

What makes the price vary

  • Dinner included — this weighs the most. Food and drink can be half the price.
  • Tour or context — guided walks and cultural introduction add value and cost.
  • Duration — one hour vs. four hours is a real price difference.
  • Location — the cruise pays for the logistics of the boat.

Is it worth it?

For a first time, yes. Fado is one of the few things in Lisbon with no "free but the same" version — either you're in a silent room with good musicians, or it isn't the same thing. If your budget is tight, start with Fado in Alfama: €19 is little for what you get.
